Vinyl has come a long way from “grandma’s linoleum.” Now referred to as “resilient”, technology in the vinyl category has created thousands of products that simulate the look of tile, wood and stone. It’s easy to maintain and is a great choice for high traffic or water areas. Resilient is a very popular choice for any hardsurface area in your home.
Sheet vinyl is functional, versatile, and easy to maintain. It is generally very affordable and comes in many colors and designs; ranging from traditional stone visuals to modern, geometric patterns. Sheet goods typically come in 6′, 12′, or 13’2″ widths. It is seamed together similar to carpet installations, with commercial installations requiring heat welding for the seams.
Luxury Vinyl Tile & Plank
Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) has a non porous vinyl makeup so is high performing and best of all-waterproof. It is also versatile and can be installed below, on, or above grade with minimal subfloor preparation. Depending on the product, installation options include loose-lay, floating, or full spread adhesive. It is also easy to repair if a piece becomes damaged.
Wood Plastic Composite Flooring
Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) is the next generation of vinyl flooring. It’s similar to luxury vinyl with it’s versatility and ease of maintenance, but has enhanced performance, aesthetics, and technology. It has an extruded core made from a recycled wood and plastic/synthetic particles mixed together to form the moisture-resistant core with a virgin PVC veneer. The rigidity of the construction gives it a waterproof body and incredible stability. The planks won’t swell or warp even if immersed in water. WPC floors are also resistant to mold and mildew. The attached backing is typically cork or specialized cushion. This aids in shock absorbency, sound reduction, and has insulating properties. Below is an example of WPC construction.
Vinyl Composite Tile
Vinyl Composite Tile (VCT) is typically used in commercial applications such as schools or hospitals. It has a rigid core and is made of a combination of limestone particles and vinyl. It’s extremely durable, especially if maintained properly.
